Jan. 26 (UPI) — Medical clearance to play basketball is the biggest roadblock between Chris Bosh and the hardwood.
But if he is given the green light to return to the NBA, Bosh sees plenty of appealing destinations. Two of those cities include former Big 3 teammates LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.
“From what I’ve been told, Bosh has not definitively decided whether to resume his career,” the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson reported. “He certainly has not ruled it out. And the idea of playing again with Dwyane Wade or LeBron James appeals to him.”
Wade’s Chicago Bulls are “examining the possibility of adding Bosh,” according to reports. Bosh, 33, is an 11-time All-Star. The Miami Heat will likely release him on March 1. He was not medically cleared to play this season because of blood clot issues. His last game was Feb. 9, 2016.
While Wade is growing more frustrated with the Bulls’ recent struggles, James has been publicly adamant that the Cleveland Cavaliers add another “playmaker.”
Bosh is currently ‘playing’ on a five-year, $118 million contract. That deal is up after the 2018 season. Technically, the Heat can release the forward after Feb. 9 to get salary relief on his contract, but the team will likely stall until March to assure he can’t play in the postseason for another franchise. On Feb. 9 the Heat can clear Bosh’s remaining salary from its cap if a doctor, independently picked by the league and players union, can agree that his condition is “career-ending or puts his life at risk if he continues playing,” Jackson reported.
Jackson wrote that Bosh has not been working toward a 2016 comeback.
Bosh has scored 19.2 points and grabbed 8.5 rebounds per game in 893 career games. He failed a physical with the Heat in September.
