Forecasters warn of another cold snap

Another spell of icy weather is set to hit the country within 24 hours, with forecasters warning of temperatures plunging to -15C overnight Tuesday.

Scotland and northern England are set to bear the brunt of the blast, a week after unseasonable spring blizzards left hundreds of people stuck in their cars.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for ice later Monday and Tuesday.

Tony Conlan, a forecaster for MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said: “Temperatures could potentially drop as low as minus 10C (14F) or even minus 15C (5F), depending on how much snow we see and how the wind falls.

“It is nowhere near the UK’s record low of minus 23C (minus 9F) but it will still be very chilly.”

He predicted that milder weather would sweep across the country by the end of the week.
