Former Yomiuri Giants pitcher found dead in S.Korea

A former pitcher for Japanese baseball team the Yomiuri Giants, Cho Sung-Min, was found dead at his home in Seoul Sunday in an apparent suicide, police said.

Cho’s body was found by his girlfriend in the bathroom of his apartment in southern Seoul with a belt around his neck.

Cho, 39, was the former husband of top Korean actress Choi Jin-Sil, who took her own life in 2008, four years after their marriage ended in a violent divorce. They are survived by two children.

“Thank you for everything. Hang tough even after I am gone,” Cho texted his girlfriend, according to the police.

“We’re now investigating the case, assuming he has committed suicide,” a police official was quoted as saying by Yonhap news agency.

Cho played for the Yomiuri Giants for four seasons from 1997. He was selected as a strong candidate for rookie of the year in 1998 but since then lost form due to constant injuries.
