Coldplay to headline Super Bowl halftime show

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Coldplay is headlining the Super Bowl halftime show.

The British rock band, which is releasing a new album Friday, will perform during halftime of the Super Bowl, said a spokesperson for Pepsi, which is sponsoring the halftime show.

Super Bowl 50 is set for Feb. 7 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The NFL is due to announce the halftime performer Thursday night during the prime-time matchup between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers.

Katy Perry starred in the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show in history earlier this year, when more than 118 million viewers tuned in to see her perform with Lenny Kravitz and her now-famous dancing sharks. Previous halftime headliners include Bruno Mars, Prince, Beyoncé, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen and the Rolling Stones.
