Colin Powell explained how he handled emails as Sec. of State

WASHINGTON, Sept. 7 (UPI) — On NBC’s Meet The Press, former military general and Secretary of State Colin Powell explained how he handled emails while in office.

The transcript for Sunday’s show features Powell explaining his reasoning for keeping two computers, one for sending sensitive material and another for communicating less critical material.

{q:I had a secure State Department machine for secure material and I had a laptop that I could use for email. I would email relatives, friends, but I would also email in the department.”

This marked Powell’s 33rd appearance on the show, according to show host Chuck Todd.

Powell’s talk of his e-mail setup, which he says he wrote a chapter about in his book, “It Worked For Me”, comes as Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton has struggled to put questions to bed about her use of a private email account for official government business.

Powell did not disclose whether he found Clinton’s acts inappropriate, instead claiming the State inspector general and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are looking into it. Clinton and her top aides will also testify before Congress.

Powell also said that upon his arrival to the State Department, he witnessed a “disastrous” information system that he had to fix by getting new computers which “gave them access to the whole world.”
