COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 14 (UPI) — The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium turned one of its youngest residents into a viral star with video of a baby polar bear sleeping and making contented sounds.
The zoo said the 5-week-old polar bear in the video posted to Facebook Friday has been receiving round-the-clock care from zookeepers since her mother, Aurora, stopped paying attention to her Nov. 12, when she was only a week old.
“Both eyes have started to open as of yesterday, but they are not fully open yet. The care staff says the sound that she makes in the video is of contentment,” the zoo said.
The post said the baby weighs more than 4 pounds and measures about 16 inches long.
“Her motor skills are improving each day and she has started trying to stand up on all fours, especially when she’s ready for her next meal!” the zoo said.
