LOS ANGELES, Jan. 9 (UPI) — DC Comics actioner Constantine is being resurrected and reimagined as an animated series which will air on the web-based CW Seed.

Announced Sunday during the Television Critics Association winter press tour, this new Constantine will bring back series star Matt Ryan to voice the occult detective and antihero.

Constantine, based on the DC Comics series Hellblazer under their Vertigo imprint, was made into an NBC drama in 2014 where it aired for 13 episodes before it was canceled. It followed the foul-mouthed British exorcist as he hunted down the undead and other supernatural entities.

Notably, Ryan appeared in an episode of the CW’s Arrow, effectively making him a part of the network’s successful DC Comics television universe alongside Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow.

The company has aired another DC animated series on Seed before, Vixen, before the character also appeared on Arrow and later on Legends.

Original series creator David S. Goyer will be returning to executive produce the animated series alongside Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter who executive produces the CW’s superhero slate.

On Twitter, CW Seed released a promotional image of an animated Constantine conjuring magic in his hands writing, “Executive producer @GBerlanti and writer David S. Goyer will be reanimating #Constantine on @cwseed, with @mattryanreal casting the spells!”
