Converse unveils updated Chuck Taylors, promises increased comfort

WASHINGTON, July 24 (UPI) — Classic Chuck Taylors are getting a long-awaited-for update Tuesday when Converse releases its newest product, the Chuck Taylor II.

Promising increased attention paid to comfort and breathability, the new shoes mark the first official improvements on the traditional style in 98 years.

“The Chuck Taylor All Star is one of the most legendary and iconic sneakers of all time,” Jim Calhoun, Converse CEO said in a statement. “The launch of the Chuck II is a ground-breaking moment for Converse as we continue to move the brand forward through creativity and innovation, ushering in not just a new sneaker, but a completely new way of thinking.”

ABC reports that Converse as a company has raised $2 billion in revenue for the first time, up 21 percent in Nike’s fourth quarter compared to the previous year.

The original Chuck Taylor All Star first debuted in 1917, becoming quickly celebrated by creative consumers all over the world. The shoe’s successor boasts a Nike Lunarlon sockliner providing arch support, a foam padded collar, a non-slip tongue and a perforated micro suede liner.

Chuck Taylor II sneakers go on sale July 28 for $70-$75.
