Curtis Jones, youngest convicted killer at 12, freed as 29-year-old man

ORLANDO, Fla., July 29 (UPI) — A 29-year-old man Florida man who was convicted of murder at age 12 was released from prison on Tuesday.

Curtis Fairchild Jones became the nation’s youngest convicted killer in 1999, when he and his 13-year-old sister, Catherine Jones, now 30, were found guilty of killing their father’s girlfriend.

According to Florida Today, the siblings wanted to kill a male relative they said was abusing them, as well as their father and his girlfriend, Sonya Nicole Speights, for failing to help them.

They shot Speights first but panicked and ran away from their home.

Both Curtis and Catherine were tried as adults and sentenced to 18 years in prison as part of a plea deal.

Curtis was at 7 a.m., from South Bay Correctional Facility in southern Florida. Catherine is due to be released in the next week.
