A Dallas-area man facing a capital murder charge in the notorious slaying of a teenage suburban Dallas girl grabbed a deputy’s service revolver and fled a Dallas hospital.

Franklin B. Davis fled Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas with the weapon Tuesday night. Dallas County sheriff’s spokeswoman Carmen Castro says the deputy was not injured, but she said she had no other details.

The 30-year-old Davis was awaiting trial in the death of Carrollton high school sophomore Shania Gray. Davis already had been charged with sexual assault when he allegedly took the 16-year-old Gray from her school. Her body was found Sept. 8 along a fork of the Trinity River. She had been shot and strangled.

Gray had been expected to testify against Davis at his trial on the rape charges.
