Dallas Cowboys’ Taco Charlton finally gets taco chain endorsement

June 28 (UPI) — Dallas Cowboys defensive end Taco Charlton signed an endorsement deal Tuesday with Taco Bueno.

Charlton also signed a deal Monday with Big Red soda.

“I’ve been trying them my whole life,” Charlton said, according to NFL Network. “Taco Bueno tops everyone.”

The No. 28 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft will help the Mexican restaurant create new offers for its customers.

“I love my name and I actually do love tacos,” Charlton said in a news release. “Although I am new to Texas, I quickly learned that nothing goes better with tacos than Big Red, so I’m excited to partner with such a unique, iconic brand.”

Taco Bueno, which has more than 180 stores in several states, is based out of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

“I actually fell asleep towards the back end of the first round of the draft,” Taco Bueno CEO Mike Roper told ESPN. “But when I woke up in the morning, my phone lit up with the news that the Cowboys had drafted a Taco. We had to do something.”

The Michigan product’s given name is Vidauntae but he has answered to Taco for most of his life.

“At the heart of any good partnership is authenticity and genuine respect,” Roper said in a statement to the Dallas Morning News. “Taco is serious about football, and we are serious about Tex-Mex, and that is a winning combination. We couldn’t be more excited to bring some fun to all our fans this upcoming football season.”

Taco first earned his nickname as a baby from his grandma and Taco Bell commercials.

After getting drafted, he told reporters that he couldn’t’ “wait to get out there and try all the different tacos.”

“I heard this is the place to be if you’re looking for tacos, so I can’t wait to try some,” he said, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Charlton, 22, had 91 tackles, 28 tackles for a loss, 19 sacks, two passes defended and a forced fumble in four seasons with the Wolverines.
