LONDON, Jan. 13 (UPI) — David Bowie’s albums have begun to dominate the charts following the news of his death.
The legendary singer’s last album, Blackstar has now taken the top spot on iTunes with the rest of of his 16 album catalog taking up residence on the music service’s Top 40 list.
Bowie’s previous hit single, “Space Oddity” has also made its way onto iTunes top songs chart currently sitting at number five.
Blackstar, described as the iconic rocker’s “parting gift” by his longtime producer Tony Visconti, has been selling well in the U.K with the release expected to hit number one when album charts are released on Friday.
Music streaming service Spotify has also seen success with Bowie’s music with global streams of his collection going up by 2,822 since Monday for a total of over 6.5 million listens. Blackstar has also entered into the service’s Top 10 list.
Bowie died Sunday at the age of 69 following a yearlong battle with liver cancer. “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer,” an official statement said Monday. “While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”
Following the news, artists, leaders, assorted admirers and even a cardinal from the Vatican paid tribute to the groundbreaking musician, including late night hosts Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon who opened their shows Monday with touching tributes to Bowie.
