David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson confirmed for ‘X-Files’ revival

LOS ANGELES, March 24 (UPI) — David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are confirmed for {The X-Files} revival.

Fox announced the science fiction drama {link:will return: “http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/03/24/the-x-files-to-return-for-six-episode-limited-series/?_r=0″,nw} as a six-episode limited series with Duchovny as Fox Mulder and Anderson as Dana Scully. The 54-year-old actor and 46-year-old actress previously portrayed the FBI agents on a nine-season run from 1993 to 2002.

Series creator and executive producer Chris Carter will develop the project for 20th Century Fox TV and Ten Thirteen Productions. Filming is expected to begin this summer, but a premiere date has not yet been set.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” Carter said in {link:a statement: “http://variety.com/2015/tv/news/the-x-files-revival-fox-david-duchovny-gillian-anderson-1201459006/”,nw}. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

Fox Television Group chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden teased the news in January, saying, “Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as {i:The X-Files} and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”

{i:The X-Files} follows Mulder and Scully as they investigate unsolved and unexplained cases involving paranormal phenomena. The series earned 21 Emmy nominations during its original run, and inspired feature films {i:The X-Files} and {i:The X-Files: I Want to Believe}.

Duchovny went on to star as Hank Moody on HBO series {i:Californication}, and will lead Charles Manson drama {i:Aquarius} on NBC come May. Anderson currently portrays Stella Gibson on BBC series {i:The Fall} and Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier on NBC drama {i:Hannibal}.
