LOS ANGELES, Dec. 22 (UPI) — David Foster broke his silence on his divorce from Yolanda Foster on Tuesday, saying speculation about the split has been hurtful.
The 66-year-old Canadian musician discussed the 51-year-old American reality star in a statement to Us Weekly three weeks after announcing their intent to divorce.
“Over the past few weeks, a great deal of inaccurate or baseless information has been reported claiming to represent my thoughts and feelings,” Foster said. “It is painful to watch this happen repeatedly — especially while trying to cope with the personal nature of the challenges surrounding the breakup of our loving marriage.”
The Fosters were together nine years and wed in November 2011. The reality star later told Watch What Happens Live her chronic Lyme disease put a strain on their marriage, although some have suggested she is faking the illness.
“I have always had and continue to have the utmost respect and love for Yolanda, which is why it is so frustrating to see headlines questioning her chronic debilitating illness,” Foster said. “I have been by Yolanda’s side over the past four years to the best of my ability as she battled with the complexities of her Lyme diagnosis.”
Yolanda Foster has since moved out of the couple’s home, although sources told TMZ that David Foster is continuing to pay for her Lyme disease treatment. She is reportedly leaning on her three children by first husband Mohamed Hadid, Anwar, Bella and Gigi Hadid, amid the split, two of whom, Anwar and Bella, also have chronic Lyme disease.
David Foster last released the compilation album The Many Sides of David Foster in May, and made occasional appearances on Yolanda Foster’s reality show, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The Bravo series airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
