PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) — Brian Davis chipped in for birdie on his final hole Thursday for a 6-under 65 and a one-shot lead in the Valspar Championship.
Davis was coming off back-to-back bogeys when he just missed the ninth green to the right. The chip would have gone about 6 feet by the hole if the pin didn’t get in the way.
That was fine with Davis, who offered a wry smile.
Sean O’Hair got more evidence his game is turning around with seven birdies in his round of 66. Also at 66 was Ricky Barnes.
Henrik Stenson, Justin Thomas and Puerto Rico Open winner Alex Cejka were at 67.
