LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12 (UPI) — Dax Shepard and Michael Pena hit the road as California highway patrolmen in the first trailer for the upcoming comedy reboot, CHiPs.

The clip, released Wednesday on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, features the unlikely pairing of Shepard and Pena as they work through their differences and a number of awkward situations and explosions in order to get to the bottom of a conspiracy within the force.

“Jon Baker (Shepard) and Frank “Ponch” Poncherello (Peña) have just joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Los Angeles but for very different reasons,” reads the official synopsis.

“Baker is a beaten up pro motorbiker trying to put his life and marriage back together. Poncherello is a cocky undercover Federal agent investigating a multi-million dollar heist that may be an inside job—inside the CHP,” it continues.

“The inexperienced rookie and hardened pro are teamed together, but clash more than click, so kickstarting a partnership is easier said than done. But with Baker’s bike skills combined with Ponch’s street savvy it might just work…if they don’t drive each other crazy along the way.”

Based on the popular 1977 television series of the same name starring Larry Wilcox as Jon Baker and Erik Estrada as Frank “Ponch” Poncharello, the film also stars Adam Brody, Jessica McNamee, Ryan Hansen, David Koechner, Michael K. Williams,Vincent D’Onofrio and Shepard’s real-life wife Kristen Bell as his on-screen spouse.

Written and directed by Shepard, CHiPs arrives in theaters March 24.
