CORK , Ireland, Oct. 20 (UPI) — A man who died aboard an Aer Lingus flight after biting a fellow passenger swallowed several packages of what appeared to be cocaine which opened in his stomach, an autopsy showed.
Aer Lingus flight EI485, carrying Brazilian national John Kennedy Santos Gujaro, 24, landed in Cork, Ireland, instead of Dublin, after he became ill and violent aboard the plane Sunday.
Gujaro was pronounced dead after the plane landed, and a postmortem examination indicated he ingested 1.75 pounds of suspected cocaine in 80 wrapped pellets, at least one of which burst open in his digestive system.
Gardai, the Irish police force, has begun an investigation as they await a toxicology report.
Gurjao was believed to have been traveling alone, but passengers aboard the plane directed police to a female passenger who was seen talking with him at Lisbon’s airport. The unidentified woman was arrested after nearly four pounds of white powder were found in her luggage.
