DeMarcus Cousins on Charles Barkley: ‘I don’t respect him’

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 16 (UPI) — Sacramento Kings DeMarcus Cousins slammed Chris Barkley after the TNT analyst said consulting Cousins on hiring the new head coach was “bull[expletive].”

Problems between the two started when Barkley said he didn’t understand why Cousins was consulted before the team hired head coach George Karl.

“Why are they discussing it with him,” he said on the TNT broadcast. “Yeah, I am totally disgusted with that … He hasn’t done enough to deserve that type of power. [The Kings] stink. Why would you give a guy that young that type of power? If you’re a Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon or somebody like that, yeah, you deserved that type of power after you have earned it. Let me just say this either way, that’s just total bulls[expletive]. That’s ridiculous.”

Cousins responded, saying he did not have much to do with the decision and Barkley’s opinion really doesn’t matter to him.

“It ain’t personal,” he said. “I mean, I don’t really respect the guy, but at the same time, I don’t really care what he thinks either.”

“I mean, that’s Charles being Charles,” Cousins added.

Barkley has a history of making bold statements and going toe-to-toe with big names in the NBA. He recently called analytics “useless” in the game, offending Rockets general manager Daryl Morey. This was only days after he called the New York Knicks idiots.
