HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 12 (UPI) — The upcoming World War Z sequel is without a director after Juan Antonio Bayona backed out from the project over scheduling issues.
The project, led by Paramount and Plan B studios, is expected to continue moving toward an intended June 2017 release date, with Brad Pitt reprising his 2013 role as Gerry Lane.
“Bayona is no longer able to make World War Z 2 this year, and it is our ambition to do so,” Paramount said in a statement to Deadline about the Spanish helmer. “He is a wonderful director, and we hope to work with him soon.”
Bayona’s schedule is reportedly tied up by commitments associated with his latest project, A Monster Calls, which is expected to release in mid-October.
