LOS ANGELES, May 13 (UPI) — NBC and Dolly Parton have announced that Coat of Many Colors will be first in a line of several TV movies based on the life of the country music legend.
Parton made an appearance at NBC’s upfront presentations on Monday in New York City, where she performed her 1971 single, “Coat of Many Colors,” and “I Will Always Love You.”
In January, NBC said it was planning a collection of made-for-TV movies about Parton, famed for her songwriting ability and charismatic personality, as part of an effort to increase its family-friendly programming.
“I don’t know anyone in the world who doesn’t love Dolly Parton,” NBC entertainment chair Bob Greenblatt said. “I hope we will create some uplifting movies that the entire family can enjoy together, a genre of programming that still seems largely untapped on television.”
Coat of Many Colors will tell the story of Parton’s childhood in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, where she was one of 12 children of a tobacco farmer
