NASHVILLE, Aug. 19 (UPI) — Dolly Parton said her 1980 comedy, 9 to 5, which tells the story of three women who revolutionize their workplace, is still relevant today.

“It still speaks to what’s going on today — we have come a long way as women,” Parton told ABC News Breakfast. “We’ve got Hillary Clinton almost in the White House, or could be. But the fact that she could be the first woman president, whether it’s her or not, somewhere down the road there’s going to be one. We’ve come far, but still have a long way to go. So I think that 9 to 5 is still just a fun thing for many reasons, and a good thing for many reasons.”

On Friday, Parton released her 43rd studio album, Pure & Simple, and she theorized on what has led to her success in the music industry over the past 60 years.

“I think people kind of know me, they’ve come to know me through the years. I think people relate to my background,” Parton said.

Parton has also acknowledged her large LGBT fan base and how they have contributed to her success.

“With my gay and lesbian fans, I think they appreciate the fact that I’m just an accepting person. I try not to be judgmental,” Parton said. “I’m outspoken about believing people should be who and how they are and be allowed to be happy and love who they please.”
