ALBUQUERQUE, Aug. 25 (UPI) — A group of motorists in low-riding pickup trucks brought a stretch of interstate to a stand-still in Albuquerque when they took over the road to do donuts.
Videos posted to social media show the trucks blocking Interstate 25 in broad daylight Sunday by driving donuts in the road.
Police said witnesses provided license plate information for the involved vehicles.
“To be able to hold everybody else on that freeway up, so they can hot rod in the middle of one of the most heavily-traveled thoroughfares in the state, is ridiculous and we’ll get them caught,” Albuquerque police spokesman Tanner Tixier told KOB-TV.
“These guys are stupid,” Tixier told KRQE-TV. “Plain and simple.”
He said the incident involved an off-camera felony.
“One of these individuals got into an accident with somebody, left the scene, but before they left the scene, they pointed a handgun at that person,” Tixier said.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation criticized the drivers in a statement.
“The department does not condone unsafe driving practices on our roadways since it puts the lives of other responsible drivers at risk. We are working with law enforcement to determine those responsible for these actions and we ask viewers to call APD to report any information about this incident,” the statement read.
