LOS ANGELES, Aug. 7 (UPI) — Dr. Dre has announced that he will be donating all royalties made from his forthcoming studio album entitled Compton to help fund a new performing arts and entertainment facility in Compton, Calif.
Dre broke the news Thursday while appearing on Apple’s Beats 1 radio show hosted by Zane Lowe.
“I reached out to the Compton mayor’s office, got in touch with the mayor, Aja Brown, and I’ve decided to donate all of my artist royalties from the sale of this album to help fund a new performing arts and entertainment facility for kids in Compton,” Dre said.
He added: “Ive been really trying to do something special for Compton and just couldn’t quite figure out what it was. [Brown] actually had this idea and she was already in the process of working on it. I said, ‘Boom, this is what we should do.’”
The new movie Straight Outta Compton which portrays Dr. Dre’s early days in rap group N.W.A, has inspired the new album and will feature Dr. Dre regulars such as Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, the Game and Xzibit just to name a few.
Compton will officially release on August 7 while Straight Outta Compton meets the silver screen August 14.
