LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4 (UPI) — Eddie Redmayne recently posed as Newt Scamander for Entertainment Weekly.
The 33-year-old English actor debuted his look in a cover shoot for the magazine’s Nov. 13 issue. Redmayne will play the yet-unexplored Harry Potter character in the forthcoming prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The image features Scamander with his briefcase in the Magical Congress of the United States of America, the U.S. version of the Ministry of Magic. The photos were shot in the historic Woolworth Building in New York.
In the Harry Potter universe, Scamander is the author of the textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. He does not factor in the Harry Potter books or movies, and the film adaptation will take place 70 years before Harry’s story begins.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is directed by Harry Potter veteran David Yates, and opens in theaters Nov. 18, 2016. The movie co-stars Katherine Waterson, Allison Sudol, Dan Fogler and Colin Farrell, and revealed its logo Tuesday.
The Harry Potter film series concluded in 2011, and earned a combined $7.7 billion. Redmayne is known for starring in Les Miserables and The Theory of Everything, and will next appear in The Danish Girl with Alicia Vikander and Amber Heard.
