HAIFA, Israel, Dec. 28 (UPI) — The Israeli Ministry of Defense has awarded Elbit Systems a contract to develop and manufacture airborne electronic warfare systems.
Under the contract, valued at approximately $70 million, Elbit will develop, manufacture and deliver the systems over a five-year period. The systems will be installed on all types of Israeli Air Force fighter jets.
“The modern global air combat arena is extremely challenging, and pilots are facing many new threats,” Elbit Systems President and CEO Bezhalel Machlis said in a statement. “Our systems provide a solution to a wide variety of current and future threats, and we hope that other customers will follow the IMOD and the Israeli Air Force and select our EW systems.”
Elbit’s airborne Electronic Warfare suite includes radar warning, laser warning ECM, and missile warning Systems. The systems are capable of integrating chaff or flares and directed countermeasures to respond to airborne threats.
