NEW YORK, Sept. 16 (UPI) — Emily Blunt is having second thoughts regarding her recently gaining U.S. citizenship after watching the Republican debate in August.
The actress told People ahead of a screening of her new film Sicario in New York it isn’t the movie — which follows FBI agents as they combat drug trafficking between U.S. and Mexico — which scares her about being a naturalized citizen of the United States, it’s the election.
“You know, what scared me was watching the Republican debate after becoming a citizen,” the 32-year-old British-born actress told the outlet.
While promoting her film at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this week, Blunt recounted her feelings after watching the debate, which aired on Fox News. “I became an American citizen recently,” she said, “and that night, we watched the Republican debate and I thought, ‘This was a terrible mistake. What have I done?’”
And while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live last week, Blunt expressed becoming a citizen was less-than-joyous for her. “I’m not sure I’m entirely thrilled about it,” she said. “People ask me about the whole day. They were like, ‘Oh, it must have been so emotional.’ I was like, ‘It wasn’t! It was sad!’ I like being British.”
