FAIRFIELD, Maine, Dec. 10 (UPI) — A Maine woman said her family was shocked to discovered an home-invading animal not native to the area — a 3-1/2-foot python.
Mary Bradstreet said she investigated a sound Monday in her Fairfield apartment that she thought might be her dog, but she instead discovered a most unexpected animal.
“I was in the other room. It was time to settle down for the night and, uh, not so much,” Bradstreet told WGME-TV. “It’s a snake.”
“It went underneath the couch as my son turned on the light and it was like, the excitement, it was just crazy,” Bradstreet said.
Police captured the 3-1/2-foot python and gave it to the Maine Warden Service, which placed it in a temporary home.
Fairfield Police Capt. Paul St. Amand said the snake had been eying Bradstreet’s pet parakeets.
“Apparently, it was hungry,” Amand told the Portland Press Herald.
Joseph Varricchio, who lives in Bradstreet’s building, said the snake is his 6-year-old pet, named Skully. He said Skully likely escaped his apartment through the ceiling in search of a warm spot to curl up.
The Maine Warden Service said the python will be returned to Varricchio.
