COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — There was Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott, racing down the sideline with several Alabama players in hot pursuit, a closeup of his face showing his eyes glancing up at the huge video board above the end zone.
Elliott, like millions at home and 108,610 fans in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1, was gauging how much of a gap he had on potential tacklers even as he carried the Buckeyes’ hopes right into the national championship game against Oregon.
Odds are, not many of those people knew much about the sophomore from St. Louis before he scissored through a hole around left end and then outran an Alabama team picture.
The soft-spoken first-year starter will be much more of a focal point when the Buckeyes meet the Ducks on Jan. 12 in Arlington, Texas.
