AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 22 (UPI) — Farrah Abraham intends to adopt a child.
The 24-year-old reality star revealed as much to OK! magazine last week, saying she’s presently in the “process of approval.” Abraham is already mother to 6-year-old daughter Sophia with late ex-boyfriend Derek Underwood.
“Sophia is in the right frame of mind and is very supportive as well,” the star said. “She is very open and accepting to understanding that someone else had other parents, and we would be their second parent and be a loving family to them.”
“I’m happy to confirm I’m moving forward in my adoption process,” she added to Us Weekly on Monday. “This means I will be making some changes in my career to welcome a new addition to my family. Very excited, and this feels so right. I’m very blessed for this opportunity.”
Abraham posted a video the same day to “share some of [her] wisdom for coping through grief through the holidays.” Underwood died Dec. 28, 2008, two months before Sophia’s birth, and the reality star has since dated Daniel Alvarez and Simon Saran.
“As many know I lost Sophia’s dad 7 years ago and I went through a serious time of depression, stress, anxiety, grieving,” she wrote. “I’m so thankful I used some of these activities to get me to a much better place, surround yourself with positive people, an groups of people who have emotional capability to be a positive influence.”
Abraham came to fame on MTV reality series 16 & Pregnant, and went on to star on Teen Mom. The show was renamed Teen Mom OG in Season 5, and will return for a sixth season with Catelynn Lowell, Maci Bookout and Amber Portwood on Jan. 4.
