Federer wins 7th Cincinnati title, Serena Willliams her 2nd

CINCINNATI (AP) — Roger Federer remained perfect in Cincinnati finals, winning an unprecedented seventh championship Sunday while denying Novak Djokovic the one title that always eludes him.

Federer never faced a break point during a 7-6 (1), 6-3 victory at the Western & Southern Open.

The Swiss star is 7-0 in Cincinnati finals. By contrast, the top-ranked Djokovic is 0-5 in Cincinnati championship matches, never winning so much as one set. Djokovic badly wanted to win Sunday and become the first player to take all of the nine current ATP Masters events.

He joked that he’ll have to wait until Federer retires to finally win it.

On the women’s side, Serena Williams won her second straight title, beating Simona Halep 6-3, 7-6 (5).
