Fenninger leads after 1st leg of Alpine combined World Cup

BANSKO, Bulgaria (AP) — Anna Fenninger of Austria leads after the opening stage of the women’s Alpine combined World Cup race in fog-hit Bansko on Sunday.

Overall leader Tina Maze of Slovenia was second, 0.45 seconds behind Fenninger’s leading time of 1 minute, 12.73 seconds. Austria’s Nicole Hosp was third, 0.59 off the lead.

The alternating clear and cloudy conditions appeared to give some competitors an advantage. Super-G races were canceled Friday and Saturday due to fog at the top of the course.

Lindsey Vonn got off to a slow start and finished 2.57 seconds back in 24th, leading the American to complain to race officials about the foggy conditions.
