‘Fifty Shades Darker’ slated to be ‘more of a thriller’ says studio chairman

LOS ANGELES, April 30 (UPI) — The highly anticipated sequel, Fifty Shades Darker will be “more of a thriller,” according to Universal Picture executive, Donna Langley.

With a 2017 release date already set, fans received their first tease, when the studio released a still of Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey from the upcoming sequel.

Langely sat down with The Hollywood Reporter and discussed details about the already successful franchise. First the executive wanted to clear the air about the rumored creative tension between author E.L. James and director Sam Taylor-Johnson on the first movie.

“For the record, the movie we ended up making is exactly the movie I wanted to make and that the studio wanted to make and that our director wanted to make,” she said.

But moving forward with the next installment, she feels that James’ husband, Niall Leonard, is a good fit to write the script because, “He actually did a draft that wasn’t credited on the first movie, and he did a really good job.”

Fifty Shades of Grey will be available on Digital HD on May 1 and Blu-ray and DVD May 8.

Fifty Shades Darker is set to open in theaters, Feb. 19, 2017.
