Florida family perplexed by frozen sausage on their roof

July 18 (UPI) — A Florida family discovered a new meaning of “mystery meat” when a loud noise on their roof turned out to be several packages of frozen sausage.

Travis Adair said he and his family woke up Saturday morning to a loud thud on the roof of their house in Deerfield Beach.

“It was like thunder, and it awakened me out of a sleep,” Adair told WPLG-TV.

The family soon discovered the cause of the sound — frozen packages of Italian sausage landing on their home.

“We got up, found two packages of sausage on our side yard, and then we were like, ‘OK, well, we got to go on the roof and check and see if we find more of this stuff,’” Adair’s son, Austin, said.

The family found three more packages of sausage on their roof, bringing the total to 15 pounds of meat.

Jennie Adair, Travis’ wife and Austin’s mother, offered a theory for where the sausage might have come from.

“I thought possibly it had fallen from a plane. I thought possibly it was something to do with a drug deal or something,” she said. “I would love to know what really happened, because it’s just so, so odd.”

Austin Adair said in a YouTube video that he broke the meat open just in case, but there were “no drugs inside of the sausage.”

The packages of sausage were labeled William Land Service, a land clearing service in Alabama, leading Austin Adair to call the company.

“I called them and the guy had no idea what I was talking about and probably thought I was crazy,” he said.

The family said they are looking for clues to the mystery meat’s origin.
