ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla., April 11 (UPI) — A customer at a Florida Starbucks was left unamused by an apparent joke printed on his receipt: “DIABETES HERE I COME.”

The customer said a coworker brought him a grande white chocolate mocha from the Starbucks in St. Augustine’s Palencia neighborhood recently and was shocked when he noticed the “Diabetes” message printed on his receipt.

The man said he has two sisters who suffer from Type 1 diabetes.

“That first word just automatically brought the picture of both sisters in my head, and I was taken aback,” the man told Action News Jax. “Just the struggles they went through and all the doctor appointments they had.”

The customer said he returned his cup to the Starbucks with a message written for baristas: “2 of my sisters are diabetic, so… not funny.”

Kent Miller, manager of the Starbucks location, said such receipt messages are not in line with company policy.

“No, we definitely don’t condone, but let me find more about this, and I will talk to my boss,” he said.

Miller said receipts should bear only the drink type and the name of the customer.

Starbucks apologized to the customer in a statement provided to The Huffington Post.

“We strive to provide an inclusive and positive experience for our customers, and were disappointed to learn of this incident,” the statement said. “We’ve since connected directly with the customer to apologize for his experience, and with our partners to ensure this does not happen again.”
