Florida State wins 65-63 after Gators tip ball into wrong basket

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Dec. 31 (UPI) — The Florida State Seminoles defeated the University of Florida Gators 65-63 after the Gators accidentally tipped the ball into their basket.

Jacob Kurtz went to catch the ball thrown by Devon Bookert which slid off his hand and into the basket, giving the Seminoles a two point lead with less than a second left.

“You do not need to feel bad,” head coach Billy Donovan told Kurtz.

The Seminoles, though reveling in their victory, felt sympathy for the team.

“It was just one of those shots you shake your head over,” said Seminoles coach Leonard Hamilton. “I’ve been on the other end those many times, so I’ll take it.”

The Gators needed the game to continue a four-game winning streak before going to conference. There was also the pain of losing to the team’s sports arch rival.
