TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 29 (UPI) — The Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, Fla., unveiled its latest arrival — a male Bornean orangutan born at the park just days before Christmas.
The zoo said the boy, named GoJo after parents Josie and Goyang, was born Dec. 21 in a procedure complicated by the infant arriving in the breech position.
“Josie did an amazing job with the delivery under difficult circumstances, and she cleared the baby’s airway herself immediately after birth,” said Dr. Ray Ball, the zoo’s director of medical sciences. “Along with our team, Josie’s 10-year-old daughter, Hadiah, observed the entire labor and delivery, which will be a very important experience for her when she becomes a mother.”
GoJo is the fourth baby born to 30-year-old Josie.
