Former White House Press Secretary Jay Carney to work for Amazon

WASHINGTON, Feb. 26 (UPI) — Former White House Press Secretary Jay Carney is leaving his job at CNN to head up public relations at Amazon.

{link:Amazon hired Carney: “http://www.politico.com/story/2015/02/jay-carney-amazon-job-115530.html#ixzz3StOW2Cye”,nw} as vice president for Worldwide Corporate Affairs. In the new position he’ll head up public relations and public policy, though Paul Misener will continue running Amazon’s lobbying efforts.

Carney, 49, will work both at Amazon’s Seattle headquarters and its Washington, D.C., offices.

Misener and public relations chief Craig Berman will both report to Carney, who in turn {link:reports directly to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos: “http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2015/02/26/amazon-brings-in-ex-white-house-spokesman-jay-carney/?mod=e2tw”,nw}.

The move comes as the company attempts to pressure Washington to allow it to use delivery drones for commercial purposes. Earlier this month the FAA proposed {link:new regulations: “http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2015/02/16/New-setbacks-for-Amazons-plan-for-drone-delivery-service/4771424099089/?spt=sec&or=tn”,nw} seen as a major setback to Amazon’s plans to use drones.
