Four Emus captured in Arizona

TUCSON, Nov. 6 (UPI) — Arizona police apprehended some rather unusual suspects in a rural area near Tucson after residents were informed to be on the lookout for several loose emus.

The Pima County Sheffif’s Department wrangled up four domesticated emus after the large, flightless birds escaped from a nearby home.

The owner of the emus told police that the birds had apparently gotten spooked after having been let out of their pens to walk around the property, according to azcentral.com.

The emus gave local police quite a bit of difficulty as they escaped in waves, with the first being reported missing at around 8:50am. Two more emus escaped as police responded to the call.

Two of the three birds were found on a nearby road as a video from the police department Facebook depicts a man attempting to capture them in a towel.

To make matters worse, as the three emus were being returned, a fourth escaped before being cornered into a horse trailer.

After the chaos came to an end, the birds were all safely returned to their homes safe and sound.

“It was quite the ordeal,” Pima County Deputy Tracy Suitt told azcentral. “The good thing is no deputies, citizens or animals were harmed during this.”
