LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10 (UPI) — The fourth season of the CW’s Arrow will manufacture an increased sense of calm after almost a full three seasons of strife surrounding Oliver Queen.
According to the show’s producer Marc Guggenheim, the next season will return to a more carefree tone as opposed to the “very, very dark path” it had been on in the previous seasons. Now that the protagonist, played by Stephen Amell, has let go of his inner demons and assumed the role of Green Arrow, Guggenheim says the remaining plot will be handled differently.
“We’re driving conflict to the show in ways that we never would have in the first three seasons,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “So it feels like Arrow, but it’s a different take on the show.”
Arrow showrunner Wendy Mericle told the publication the show now centers less around Queen’s erasing his father’s legacy — which was a running theme throughout the first three seasons — “and more about establishing his.”
According to Screen Rant, Arrow will be a “reinvention” of the show following an “evolution” theme as its villains literally gain more power with supernatural abilities.
The CW airs the premiere of Arrow Wednesday, Oct. 7.
