NEW YORK, June 23 (UPI) — In an attempt to tease a Fox and Friends segment, co-host Pete Hegseth decided to take a shot at throwing an ax at a bulls-eye.
Unfortunately for him, and a drummer in the West Point Band, Hegseth missed.
Big time.
The ax launched from the “rogue” anchor’s hands, soared past the target, hitting the arm of Hellcats band member Jeff Prosperie. He and his band where performing for the show that day in honor of Flag Day and the Army’s 240th birthday, The New York Daily News reported.
“I was hit by an ax while performing a drum solo live on national TV…..words I never imagined saying!,” Prosperie wrote on the video he posted Saturday. “This happened last Sunday, and I have been reluctant to post but starting to receive inquiries from concerned family and friends.”
“My leadership told me they were told there would be no ax throwing,” the sectional leader said. “I think the anchor person went rogue and decided to throw it.”
Entertainment Weekly reported that Prosperie went on air with Hegseth after the traumatic ax throw and that the two “acted like nothing had happened.”
“Poor decision, obvious negligence, should not have happened, could have been avoided,” Prosperie concluded.
“I am thankful to God that the double-sided blade only hit broadside on the outer elbow with significant impact and a couple of cuts as it fell along my wrist. It could have been much worse or fatal. Focusing on full physical and emotional recovery.”
