PARIS (AP) — So here’s how far Stan Wawrinka has come: Now that he is a two-time major champion, the guy ignores congratulatory phone calls from Roger Federer.
OK, well, that’s not exactly how it went.
Wawrinka says he wasn’t able to answer a post-match call from good pal Federer on Sunday night because it was time to do a news conference after beating Novak Djokovic in the French Open final.
Wawrinka did get a text message from Federer.
Says Wawrinka: “He is always behind me. He likes when I win.”
After adding this trophy to the one he won at last year’s Australian Open, Wawrinka says it is hard to believe he owns multiple Grand Slam titles.
He says “it’s a strange feeling, but it’s a great feeling.”
