Friday is Spartan Green Day in Michigan

EAST LANSING, Mich., Dec. 3 (UPI) — While it wont be a sea of red facing Michigan State Saturday, the Spartans are still insuring a gluttony of green garb.

The Spartans head to Indianapolis Saturday to face Iowa in the Big Ten championship.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder proclaimed Friday “Spartan Green Day” for the state.

“We encourage citizens throughout Michigan to wear green as we join with fans across the country and MSU students, alumni, faculty and staff to support and celebrate the 2015 MSU Spartan football team,” Snyder said in the proclamation.

The 11-1 Spartans won eight consecutive games, before losing Nov. 7 at Nebraska. Since then, the Spartans have won three straight games, including a Nov. 21 17-14 victory at Oho State.

“For more than a century, the Michigan State University (MSU) Spartan football team has continuously demonstrated the utmost commitment to the game, their school and their fans,” Synder’s proclamation said.

“The 2015 Spartan Football team has enjoyed tremendous success securing the East Division title and now competing in their third Big Ten Championship game in five years.”
