‘Furious 7’ blazes to the top of the North American box office with $143.6M

LOS ANGELES, April 5 (UPI) — The auto-themed, action-adventure flick Furious 7 topped the North American box office this weekend, earning a staggering $143.6 million, Rentrak announced Sunday.

The movie features Vin Diesel, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris and the series’ late co-star Paul Walker, who died in an off-set car crash in 2013 after shooting most of his scenes.

Coming in at No. 2 in the United States and Canada for the weekend of April 3-5 is Home with $27.4 million, followed by Get Hard at No. 3 with $12.9 million, Cinderella at No. 4 with $10.3 million and Insurgent at No. 5 with $10 million.

Rounding out the top tier are It Follows at No. 6 with $2.5 million, Woman in Gold at No. 7 with $2 million, Kingsman: The Secret Service at No. 8 with $1.7 million, Do You Believe? at No. 9 with $1.5 million and The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel at No. 10 with $1 million.
