Gabe Holmes: Arizona Cardinals promote TE to active roster

Dec. 16 (UPI) — Tight end Gabe Holmes has joined the Arizona Cardinals’ active roster.

The Cardinals also released running back Bronson Hill. Arizona announced the roster moves on Saturday.

Holmes entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent signing in 2015 with the Oakland Raiders. The Purdue product spent that year between the Raiders’ active roster and practice squad. He spent 2016 on the Raiders’ injured reserve list and took park in preseason with the Raiders before getting cut on Sept. 2. The 6 foot 5, 255 pound pass catcher signed with the Cardinals’ practice squad on Nov. 30. He was with the Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens’ practice squads earlier this season. He will wear No. 85 in Arizona.

He had two catches for one yard this preseason. Holmes had one catch for five yards last preseasons. He pulled in four catches for 32 yards during the 2015 preseason.

Holmes, 26, had 685 yards and six scores on 65 receptions in 49 games with the Boilermakers.

The Cardinals have Troy Niklas, Ricky Seals-Jones and Jermaine Gresham on their depth chart at tight end heading into Week 15. Gresham has an illness and is out for the Cardinals’ contest on Sunday against the Washington Redskins.
