CARTERSVILLE, Ga., Dec. 7 (UPI) — A Georgia emergency room doctor shared video of an unusual procedure to remove an arrow from a patient who accidentally shot himself through the hand.
Dr. Carlo Otter, an emergency room physician in Cartersville, Ga., posted a video to YouTube documenting the unusual case of a “young kid” who slipped while practicing archery and fired an arrow that entered through his wrist and became stuck through his hand.
Otter says in the video that the arrow appears to have missed the young archer’s bones.
The doctor and his medical team use a small saw to cut the aluminum arrow where it protrudes from between two of the patient’s fingers and then pull it out through his wrist.
The patient is able to touch his thumb to each of his fingers after the extraction.
“This patient presented to the emergency department after shooting himself with an arrow. He was using a 70 pound bow when the Arrow slid off as he was releasing it and went straight to his wrist,” Oller wrote in the video’s description.
