Gloria Allred clients prepared to testify against Bill Cosby in criminal case

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Pa., Dec. 31 (UPI) — Gloria Allred, the attorney representing 29 of Bill Cosby’s accusers, says some of her clients are prepared to testify in court as their alleged attacker faces criminal charges.

During an appearance on Today Thursday morning, Allred revealed additional accusers, yet to have gone public, approached her after Cosby’s arrest and indictment Wednesday.

“Even before the charges yesterday, some of [my clients] said they would be prepared to testify but just didn’t want to go public before that time. And since yesterday, I’ve had even more contacts from even more women,” she said.

Cosby’s attorney, Monique Pressley, also appeared on the show Thursday to assert her client was in fact not guilty of the crimes alleged by Andrea Constand, who claims Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her in 2004.

“My client is not guilty,” Pressley told anchor Savannah Guthrie. “And there will be no consideration on our part of any sort of arrangement.”

Pressley’s comments echo that of an official statement released after Cosby’s criminal charge Wednesday. “Make no mistake,” the message read, “we intend to mount a vigorous defense against this unjustified charge and we expect that Mr. Cosby will be exonerated by a court of law.”

Bill Cosby, a 78-year-old comedian and actor, has been accused by over 50 women of drugging and sexual assault over the course of 2015. The former Cosby Show star appeared in Philadelphia District Court Wednesday to face accusations by alleged victim Andrea Constand, whose case was reopened just before the end of its 12-year statute of limitations.

“Today, after examination of all the evidence, we are able to seek justice on behalf of the victim,” Pennsylvania District Attorney Kevin Steele said at a news conference announcing the charges based on new evidence. “Reopening this case was not a question,” Steele said.

“Rather, reopening this case was our duty as law enforcement officers with a sworn obligation to uphold our constitutions and to uphold the law.”
