DALLAS, Aug. 1 (UPI) — Experts call the NFL a copycat league when it comes to play calling success. But teams seem to be taking that message a bit too seriously when it comes to offseason shenanigans this year.
After a New York Jets fan site flew a banner saying: “CHEATERS LOOK UP!” over the New England Patriots’ opening day of camp, the NFC East stepped in.
Philadelphia Eagles fans started a GoFundMe account to raise money to fly a “We Got DeMarco” banner above the Dallas Cowboys’ Aug, 9 blue and white scrimmage. Cowboys fans responded with its own GoFundMe account, to fly a “We Got The Division” banner over Eagles camp.
Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy, who is suspended for the Eagles game in week 2, was aksed to contribute to the fund on Twitter.
Hardy responded with a $300 donation and a request to change the message to “WE STILL DEM BOYZ! #SACKSCOMIN!”
The Eagles fan account has raised $1,948, just above the $1,800 goal. The Cowboys account stands at $2,962 in just one day, well over the $1,350 goal.
The project’s creator, Ashley Hill, told Twitter what would be done with the extra cash.
“Anything over the goal amount, sans GoFundMe fees, will be donated to a Dallas Charity/Hospital which the Cowboys are associated with. — DCBlueStar,” Hill tweeted.
Hardy is suspended for the first four games of the season, after having his 10 game suspension reduced.
