Gwyneth Paltrow accepts Food Bank for New York City’s challenge, attempts to eat for a week on $29

NEW YORK, April 11 (UPI) — Oscar-winning actress and lifestyle blogger Gwyneth Paltrow says she has accepted the Food Bank for New York City’s challenge to eat for a week on a budget of $29.

“This is what $29 gets you at the grocery store—what families on SNAP (i.e. food stamps) have to live on for a week,” Paltrow tweeted Thursday, along with a photo of a carton of eggs, bags of brown rice, black beans, peas and tortillas, bunches of kale, lettuce and scallions, and limes, avocados, a tomato, an onion and a bulb of garlic.

The actress also nominated her friend, restaurateur Roy Choi, to meet the challenge or make a donation to the food bank.

“We’re walking in their shoes to see how far we get. I nominate @RidingShotgunLA to do #FoodBankNYCChallenge & donate,” she tweeted.

The food bank says 1.7 million New Yorkers receive SNAP assistance.
