CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) — Hall of Fame players Paul Molitor and Ryne Sandberg are managing against each other, making the spring training game between the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies a unique matchup.
The Hall said it believes Monday’s game in Clearwater, Florida, marks the first time two of its members have faced each other as major league managers.
Molitor is in his first full season with the Twins. Sandberg is in his second full year.
Molitor and Sandberg threw out ceremonial first pitches at the same time. After the first pitch of the game, the ball was taken out of play, signed by both managers and headed to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
