LOS ANGELES, Aug. 12 (UPI) — Classic Star Wars character Lando Calrissian is set to appear again as part of Disney’s upcoming Han Solo spinoff film.

According to The Wrap, the studio is now casting a young Calrissian to join his smuggling best friend Solo played by Alden Ehrenreich, who was officially announced to be taking on the iconic role back in July.

Originally portrayed by Billy Dee Williams, Calrissian first appeared in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back as the leader of Cloud City who was said to have a long history with Solo, a role made famous by Harrison Ford.

Calrissian was last seen in 1983’s Return of the Jedi where he once again got to pilot the Millennium Falcon which Solo had described as having won from Calrissian in a card game.

The untitled spinoff is set to be directed by 21 Jump Street and Lego Movie helmers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller from a script by Lawrence Kasdan, who co-wrote three Star Wars films and his son Jon Kasadan.

“It will not be, ‘Here’s where [Han] was born and this is how he was raised,’” Lawrence said previously of the film’s plot. “I think what it will be is what he was like 10 years earlier, maybe a little earlier, you’ll get a glimpse.”

The Han Solo Star Wars spinoff is due in theaters May 25, 2018.
